Background

  • Alan qualified as a Chartered Management Accountant before embarking on a career in the drinks industry.
  • At Whitbread and Schenley’s Long John Whisky Distillers, Alan held several positions within Finance before ending as Financial Controller managing a staff of 40. He also held several positions ending as Deputy Site Manager responsible for 500 staff and all purchasing, production planning, materials control, cased goods warehousing, despatch and administration. Alan was also involved in sales and marketing and was Head of Customer Services.
  • With Allied Distillers Alan was the team leader for customer services restructuring, combining seven departments into one. While at Allied Distillers, Alan worked on several projects including a worldwide financial review, the strategic acquisition of Dewar’s.
  • Alan then joined Allied Domecq where he held various positions. He was Financial Controller for Scotch brands such as Ballantines and Teacher’s, responsible for cash flow management, five year and annual production, sales, marketing and administration plans, capital expenditure control. He managed a team of 85 with annual sales of £250m, stocks of £350m and an annual capital expenditure of £40m. Alan then became Finance Director of Alfred Lamb, Tia Maria before becoming Finance Director of Jas Burrough where he was responsible for Beefeater Gin.
  • Alan joined Intangible Business in 2005 and has been involved in several projects, most notably in the drinks industry.
