Allan Caldwell
Background
- Allan gained a degree in Physics from Imperial College, London and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1975 in the London office of Coopers & Lybrand (now PriceWaterhouse Coopers). He spent a further three years with Coopers & Lybrand in London and Brussels, and subsequently became a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and a member of the Institute of Directors. He speaks fluent French and Spanish and has considerable international experience working throughout Europe, North and South America and the Far East.
- He worked eight years for Beatrice Companies Inc., five years for Kleeneze Group and ten years for Allied Domecq. During this time, he held a variety of senior, commercial, finance roles and was responsible for numerous business restructurings, acquisitions and sustained profit growth, latterly as Finance & Commercial Services Director for Allied Domecq’s Duty Free division.
- In 2001, Allan set up his own consultancy providing financial services to a wide range of clients including Burger King, Budget Rent a Car, LVMH and Baron Philippe de Rothschild.
- Allan has wide experience in brand valuation/strategy projects in wines & spirits, food, soft drinks, confectionery, homewares, perfume and cosmetics. Allan has accounted for past business combinations and goodwill impairment testing under USGAAP and IFRS for Allied Domecq; valued the Laura Ashley brand in support of legal action, investigated charging methods between mobile telephone operators, been involved in cartel action in the pharmaceutical industry and is a regular lecturer on IFRS and IAS for IASeminars.
