Richard Mallett
Background
- Richard gained a degree in Economics from Nottingham University. He joined Boots as an economist in 1979. In 1986 he joined the Sainsbury’s group as a financial analyst and qualified as a Chartered Management Accountant. He is also a fellow of the Association of Corporate Treasurers.
- In 1990 Richard was appointed Corporate Finance Manager at Reed International where he was involved in investor relations, strategic planning, budgeting and Reed’s intensive M&A activity culminating in the merger with Elsevier. In 1993 he rejoined Sainsbury’s as Deputy Treasurer, moving on to be Group Treasurer and then Group Financial Controller.
- In 2001, Richard was appointed Technical Director at the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) with responsibility for maintaining and enhancing CIMA’s authority in management accounting and related business areas such as financial reporting, corporate governance and sustainability. Richard engaged extensively with the wider accountancy profession and, from 2001 to 2009, was the Technical Adviser to the UK member of the Professional Accountants Business Committee of the International Federation of Accountants.
- Richard has extensive experience in valuation techniques being responsible for the oversight of the financial appraisal of all Sainsbury’s store investment and being involved acquisition activity, including the merger of Reed International and Elsevier. He also managed a comprehensive shareholder value exercise across around 25 separate business units at Reed International.
- Richard joined Intangible Business in 2009 as Technical Director, bolstering the technical valuation services Intangible Business provides.
