Intangible assets are increasingly being offered as security to reduce company pension deficits, manage potential cash surpluses or being sold to the pension fund under SAS arrangements with cash being transferred into the company.

Intangible Business specialises in valuing intangible assets and acts as independent valuer in such schemes, representing the company, trustees or both. An independent valuation is essential to ensure the objectivity of the valuation. Suitable intangible assets include brands, trademarks, copyright, patents, shares, software, technology, contracts. Invariably a combination of intangible assets is required to ensure value is maintained for the pension fund.

Our first role is to define the bundle of connected assets suitable to be placed in a special purpose vehicle. The valuation is carried out on a fair market value basis and transferred to the SPV allowing for a degree of headroom, furthering the trustees’ security.

We have provided valuations for these purposes for companies ranging from SMEs to those in the FTSE 100.
