What is a brand valuation?

In its simplest form, a brand valuation calculates how much a brand is worth to its owner. This can be useful when trying to buy or sell intellectual property, analyse brand strength, analyse royalty rates and licence agreements or forecast financial performance, and in legal issues such as trademark disputes and mergers and acquisitions.

What information do I need for a brand valuation?

Two main strands of information are required. The first is detailed financial analysis into the sales and profitability of the business and the second is a commercial due diligence process and brand strength testing in the eyes of the consumers. Both these elements are generally either already held by the business or readily available.
