  1. Cloud computing firms Onyx and Pulsant announce merger

    Two cloud computing firms with significant occurrence in Scotland are to get together, with the takeover of Onyx by Pulsant. The deal between the data storage and processing firms builds a company with 400 staff and an annual turnover of about £75m.

    Online bike retailer, Chain Reaction Cycles plans to merge with Portsmouth-based competitor, Wiggle. This will allow both companies to meet the needs of more customers and become a stronger force in the bicycle retail industry.

    Brewing conglomerate, AB InBev have confirmed to having received an offer from Asahi Group to acquire SABMiller’s Grolsch, Meantime and Peroni Nastro Azzuro beer brands.

  5. VTech to acquire children's technology and education company LeapFrog

    VTech, a global leader in cordless telephones and electronic learning products will be acquiring developer of children’s educational toys and entertainment, LeapFrog. This will allow the Hong Kong and US-based companies to offer a broader portfolio of products.

  6. Just Eat gobbles up international businesses

    Online takeaway service, Just Eat has agreed to acquire numerous international businesses from German start-up investor Rocket Internet. This includes the Brazilian and Mexican arms of Foodpanda in an attempt to consolidate its leads in a fiercely competitive sector.

  7. BT to retain EE brand as acquisition confirmed

    BT has completed the £12.5bn acquisition of mobile operator, EE. The deal will make BT the biggest telecoms firm in the UK with plans to launch a consumer mobile venture at the end of the year.

  8. Sainsbury's strikes deal to buy Home Retail Group

    Supermarket chain, Sainsbury’s has reached a £1.3bn deal to buy the Home Retail Group which includes the Argos chain. The acquisition is an attempt for Sainsbury’s to challenge companies such as Amazon.

  9. Nexstar clinches deal to acquire Media General

    Broadcasting group, Nextar has announced it will acquire multimedia company, Media General, for approximately $2.1bn. Nexstar said it would divest the local TV stations necessary for FCC approval for the deal.

  10. Adidas to end sponsorship of International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) over doping scandal

    Sportswear giant, Adidas has informed the IAAF that it will be terminating its sponsorship deal which was supposed to run until 2019. This follows reports of the ongoing doping and corruption scandal.

  11. Johnson Controls in advanced talks to acquire Tyco

    U.S manufacturer of car batteries and heating and ventilation equipment is said to be in advanced talks with Tyco International, a fire protection and security business. The deal would support Johnson in its aim to focus on building efficient and automotive battery operations.

  12. Spotify acquires two start ups to improve its social features

    Music streaming service, Spotify has acquired two start-ups, Cord Project and Soundwave. The deal was in a bid to improve the social features on Spotify, offering a more engaging social play to the platform, including group chats based on playlists and song-based messaging

  13. Microchip agrees to acquire Atmel for $3.6bn

    Microchip Technology has agreed to acquire Atmel, an American-based designer and manufacturer of semiconductors. The acquisition values Atmel at around $3.6bn and will help Microchip toward boosting growth and cutting costs.

  14. Homebase sold to Wesfarmers in £340mn deal

    Home Retail Group has announced that Homebase will be acquired by Australian retail giant, Wesfarmers in a deal worth £340mn. Homebase will be rebranded as Bunnings to align with Wesfarmers’ DIY chain.

  15. BT takeover of EE gets final competition and markets authority (CMA) clearance

    The CMA has cleared the way for the BT Group’s takeover of mobile phone network EE. The £12bn acquisition will bring together the largest fixed-line business and the largest mobile telecoms business in the UK.
